Ibrahim Fuseini from East Texas A and M University, who represented Ghana at the 2024 Paris Olympics, will not participate in the NCAA Indoor Championship this weekend, despite achieving a time of 6.51 seconds (6.53s A) this indoor season. His performance places him among the world’s elite and ties him for second in Ghana’s all-time records. However, he will not compete at Virginia Beach due to NCAA reclassification criteria that his institution is navigating after transitioning from NCAA DII to DI in September 2021.
NCAA Reclassification Criteria
The reclassification procedure mandates that “schools undergoing reclassification are required to engage in an academic assessment, fulfil all Division I core guarantees and attestation standards, complete an NCAA self-study program, and adhere to new financial aid criteria for a specified duration” (NCAA, 2025).

Fuseini’s Readiness
Although he didn’t have the chance to vie for an individual national title this year, Fuseini demonstrates his readiness to challenge the top competitors whenever the occasion presents itself. He will be eager to transition his outstanding performance from the indoor season to outdoors.
